From the building of the transcontinental railroad and the challenges of blasting through granite to ice harvesting pure\, clean ice\, which was a luxury for only the very wealthy it was used mainly in upscale San Francisco hotels and bars and also to keep fruit cool on its way to the East Coast in rail cars known as the Pacific Fruit Express. The stories are rich\, fascinating and learning about them should be part of every Truckee local's experience.\n\nJoin us for a tour of Truckee's quaint and charming museums\, guided by Truckee Donner Historical Society docents. Start at the historic Train Depot\, an iconic structure in downtown Truckee that was placed on the California List of Historic Landmarks in 1976. Begin the evening at 4:15 pm with some food and beverages\, then tour the Museum of Truckee History and the Old Jail Museum guided by Truckee Donner Historical Society docents. Tours will start around 5:15 pm and will be broken into groups no larger than 15 people. Tour one or both museums.\n\nTours will conclude around 6:30 pm\, after which we encourage you to continue the fun by visiting some of Truckee's wine bars\, brewpubs\, and restaurants.\n\nThis is a free event but space is limited   please register here on Eventbrite.
