DESCRIPTION:The Church of the Mountains\, a cornerstone of the community\n\nfor 155 years\, is proud to announce the planned unveiling of its historic plaque\, recognizing its significant contributions to local history and culture. \n\n\n\nOn February 22\, 2024\, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors granted Nevada CountyLandmark (NEV 24-01) status to the Church of the Mountains (COM) Campus comprised ofChurch of the Mountains United Methodist Church\, the Elizabeth Danforth Cottage and the Rev. Sipes Parsonage\, in Truckee\, CA. The Church of the Mountains is located on Church Street since 1869 as one of the first two churches in Truckee. Today\, the COM visible steeple with a McShane bell remains an integral part of Truckee's historic downtown district. COM is Truckee's oldest church and the only church operating in Truckee from its original location. The original 1889 church bell still rings today.
