Rerouted Big Boy 4014 World's Largest Steam Engine No Longer Coming to Truckee

04/11/26 Due to weather Union Pacific has rerouted the Big Boy Steam Engine to head back east from Roseville Sunday along the Feather Canyon. the same way it came. The Big Boy will no longer be heading over Donner Summit and passing through Colfax, Truckee or Reno on April 12th.

Stand back 25 feet as the Big Boy will be blowing steam coming into Truckee April 12 at 4:45 in the afternoon and stopping at the Museum of Truckee History. You’ll want to see this massive machine, the largest operating steam locomotive in the world today at 1.2 million pounds. The Union Pacific 4014 is on its America 250 tour where it will be taking a 15-minute break in Truckee while it wets its whistle which sounds like no other, a real treat. And for another real treat, stop by the Museum of Truckee History where you can celebrate with us before the Big Boy arrives.
