Make Your Mark

How do we express ourselves through design in a way that represents who we truly are? The social media era has caused us to brand ourselves as how we want to be seen, not who we really are.  In this workshop, we will design a personal logo (or “mark”) that highlights the things we love most about ourselves and represents our true nature.  

We begin with some exercises to help think through what we stand for and which design elements (typefaces, styles, colors) best reflect that. Just as a successful brand conveys a company’s values and aspirations and creates and emotional connection with the customer, your mark will do the same with those around you.

Each participant creates a “brainstorm page” which can be a useful tool when working on projects and design work. We then begin sketching out our ideas. By the end of class everyone will have finessed their favorite mark and can use it to create personal stationery or have it made into a stamp to express yourself visually.

This workshop with Kirby Woodson reminds us that art is a powerful way to tell stories, including the stories of ourselves. Often more effective than words (or another selfie)!
