Visit Lower Carpenter Valley Nature Preserve
Truckee Donner Land Trust invites you on a guided hike to experience beautiful Lower Carpenter Valley. Minutes from Truckee but hidden from view, Carpenter Valley offers amazing scenery, lush meadows carpeted by wildflowers, and chances to glimpse wildlife in its natural environs.
The Land Trust is in the process of acquiring the property so it will not be open to the public in 2017, with the exception of these exclusive hikes led by docents who are available to guide the route and answer questions about the land and its inhabitants. From downtown Truckee: Take 89 North toward Sierraville and turn left onto Alder Creek Road. Past the intersection with Schussing, take your first right turn onto Carpenter Valley Road, a dirt road with USFS signage. From Tahoe Donner: Follow Alder Creek Road toward Highway 89. Just past the Tahoe Donner campground, turn left at Carpenter Valley Road, a dirt road with USFS signage. Follow Carpenter Valley Road approximately 2.25 miles and park off to the sides out of the roadway near the locked gate .
