About Us

Cultural Threads is a socially conscious brand rooted in the highlands of Peru and grounded in the values of the Sierra. We partner with Indigenous women artisans to create hand-knit clothing, accessories, and home goods using natural fibers and traditional techniques. Each item is a reflection of cultural resilience and a deep relationship with the Earth.

Our process begins at the source: alpacas are respectfully raised in the high Andes, their fleece sheared by hand and spun into yarn using ancestral methods by the same women who knit or weave each piece. The result is 100% handcrafted alpaca, sustainable, luxurious, and rich with meaning.

In the Tahoe region, where people value authenticity, sustainability, and a connection to the outdoors, our handcrafted pieces feel right at home. Whether it’s an alpaca beanie warming you after a day on the slopes or a handwoven throw adding soul to your cabin, Cultural Threads blends ancient artistry with modern mountain living.

Founder Kristen Kempt has spent over a decade building trusted relationships while living between Truckee and the Andean communities above 14,000 feet. Cultural Threads is a reflection of this bridge, created with care, purpose, and a shared vision for a more connected, conscious world.
