The ''China Wall'' on Donner Summit was one of two walls and four tunnels constructed by the Chinese railroad workers to make train travel possible to the west. The wall is more than 150 years old and was constructed of fitted stones with no mortar. The tunnels were dug out of solid granite and took 2 years of back breaking labor to complete.
There is a memorial plaque dedicated to these Chinese workers on Old Hwy 40 at Donner Summit.
