About Us

The Truckee Donner Public Utility District is a nonprofit, publicly owned electric and water utility governed by a locally elected board of directors. We have been serving the greater Truckee area since 1927. We do more than just supply water and power to our ratepayers – we work closely with other local agencies, businesses, and the community to ensure that our efforts continue to make Truckee a great place to live, visit, and conduct business.

We also have award-winning energy and water conservation programs to help our customers save energy, water, money, and live more comfortably. This includes a wide-range of programs, the beautiful Patricia Sutton Conservation Garden, and our proactive face-to-face interactions with customers to help deliver the benefits of energy and water conservation.

We understand the importance of protecting our natural resources. Our investment in renewable energy resources keep electric rates affordable; today our energy resources are almost 50% carbon-free and renewable. We are also working to enable electric vehicles in our community and make Truckee electric vehicle friendly by supporting EV infrastructure and installing public access charging powered by our green energy.

We provide some of the best water on the planet from the Martis Valley ground water basin. Our water is typically 500-1,000+ years old, requires very little treatment, and comes out of the tap cold. Maintaining an adequate water supply and playing a lead role in water conservation is important to us. Truckee truly has the best water right from your tap.
